I recently arrived in Florida for my mini vacation and escape from the bustle of the fast paced city to visit my family and the little ones.(we all need a break sometime) on arriving back to my roots it seems customary to connect with the old friends or at least catch up on the stories of "hows so and so doing?" and other common questions like: who moved? who's dating who? who's married now? what new stores or restaraunts are happening and whats the general social scene like.
In my travel to my old town I always seem to fall short of the social scene. none of my former associates live close or are available and the ones that are seem to be completely out of touch of thier surroundings(or at least when it comes to a good party).
A lot of the time I show up at some spot that seems to be out of the social agenda since the begining of time and I usually can't multi task well enough to bounce back into the partying or hanging out mood. After many a time of 'packing up ship' and sailing back to my folks home I finally found the solution to my quick visit problem.
1) I always pop up unannounced and telling friends the day I touch down at the airport - while getting my bags and walking to my awaiting driver.(my parents or brother) sounded soooo celeb-like "my awaiting driver"
pop-ups are not good.(like the ones on this computer indicating a slow virus-like invasion of this laptop)
And I must remember that even the stars have press releases and public appearances are usually announced.
alert people ahead of time of when your showing up.
2) I never seem to keep up with my associates well enough to keep abreast with whats happening ( I usually think, "what could be possibly happening in that tiny town?" but obviously it is something when your visiting.
keep in general contact with a few of the town regulars that know whats going on and where..
3) I didnt think of doing a lil research before I traveled (my last thoughts were very simple, Im off from work visit family, watch movies, play with my lil ones and sleep, sleep, sleep and maybe read a book..
At the time when I was getting ready to visit the small town I should have:
Checked - out the local radio station they usually list upcomming events
connected with a social networking site like Facebook.
In the end I realized that even though visiting my family in Florida is the main priority I still wanted in on the social scene and to do so required me to alert a few close friends of my upcomming trip, keep regular contacts with a socialite and doing basic research for myself.
I hope you learned or was entertained by something from this post... If you have other ideas that you think is helpful or you have a story of your own small town social scene experience feel free to post it or message me.

My interview with Ethan Smythe (recording studio owner)
I self edited this interview and conducted various audio edits just so I could be able to upload the footage easily to "the Nathaniel show blog" . The interview lasted for well over 17 mins and I couldn't post it to youtube or my blog because of the length...(youtube video limit is 15mins at a time) I stayed up trying to pry and compress this piece and its just about DONE..
The interview
Mr. Smythe was very informative and enlightening to be around.
The uncut video footage shows how much fun we had just connecting on personal and intellectual levels. Mr. Smythe shows true passion for creating and thinking outside the box and is sure to set any aspiring artist ablaze with inspiration... He is also a very eloquent speaker and I had to be on my "A game" when putting the words together.
After the interview I was excited to meet with Mr. Smythe in the recording studio and its just something about impromptu production and creating that is electrifying....(some bonus footage will be posted) lol just me acting crazy
Keep checking back for the rest of this segment

"Old Friendships Rekindles" Part 1
Have you ever been friends with someone that you thought would be your friend for life and in less than a season you lose contact?
About 2 days ago I met such a friend. He was a guy that I would hangout with regularly; then all of a sudden we just stopped hanging out at all. partly because I started working different hours and because I sensed that I was the only one putting out any effort to keep the relationship flowing....
If you have any experiences like that explain? what would you do if you met a distant or has been friend?
what would you say???? should you trust their friendship or start from scratch??

I love dreds and locs.."the community"
I have always loved dreds and locs ever since I was a lil boy. During my younger years I began prepping my parents (who were admittedly against it at the time) that I was going to have them as soon as I went away to college. and In Aug 2004 I went away to college and it all begun.... the journey was ruff.. finding someone to do it well on campus and paying the money that I didn't or couldn't afford to maintain it..whew.... I wished I had a girlfriend that would do it for free..lol that never happened.. then when I had it done it would never look right after I took a nap or went into a trance-like stupor after my work... Ultimately, I have conquered that stage and those sterotypes "you won't be able to get a job with your hair like that" I always reply, "hasn't been a problem for me......"
Why I Wanted to twist it?
well alot of people ask me if Iam Rasta. I have the face of a Lion, but I believe in God and Jesus a lil different than the average Rasta. I decided to allow my hair to loc because I believe in being natural and I believe in being a firm advocate for being black and beautiful along with knowing I would look great in it..
Why Did You decide to start your Locs?? How do you feel about people with locs?
Have any stylist tips for locs?
Me a few years later on August 2010...I am loving it more.
